Founders’ Award

The Founders’ Award honors individuals who have made a significant contribution to the field, which is appreciated and recognized by dermatopathologists throughout the medical world. The contribution must be innovative, fundamental, and monumental in scope with regard to its application and value, as deemed by the Awards Committee and Board of Directors. The award may be given for contributions to the understanding of disease mechanisms, for new diagnostic methodologies, for diagnostic insights, for teaching approaches, etc., but in all instances the achievement should be deemed to have advanced the field of dermatopathology. The award is meant to recognize contributions to the field regardless of association with the American Society of Dermatopathology. The honoree may or may not be a practicing dermatopathologist or, even a physician.

The American Society of Dermatopathology will present the Walter R. Nickel Award for Excellence in Teaching of Dermatopathology to an individual who has made great contributions to the teaching of dermatopathology. Individuals who have been important teachers of dermatopathology should be considered without regard to academic affiliation, status or number of publications in the field. The Nickel Award recipient will be selected by the Awards Committee and ratified by the Board of Directors.
